Mission Statement
The Mission of the Rock Creek Elementary PTC is to strengthen the relationship between school and community in order to enhance the educational experience of every student. The PTC will raise funds to support educational opportunities and supplement the needs of the school to promote academic, cultural, and enrichment activities.
Land Acknowledgment
For tens of thousands of years, families have gathered here—in this place—called “Atfalati (“at-FALL-uh-tee”). We acknowledge that Rock Creek Elementary School is situated on the ancestral homelands of the Tualatin Kalapuya (“cal-uh-POO-yuh”) People. For centuries, the Kalapuya thrived in this region. However, European colonization devastated Kalapuya communities. Settlers forcibly displaced the Kalapuya, introduced deadly diseases, and implemented racist systems of governance and control.
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of this school’s founding, we also remember the United States government’s unjust removal and relocation of all Kalapuya People to the Grande Ronde Reservation 170 years ago. Systemic policies of genocide, relocation, racism, and assimilation still impact many Indigenous families today. We recognize the historical trauma caused by these events and honor the resilience of the Kalapuya people and their descendants. We also acknowledge the diverse Indigenous communities who continue to live in the Tualatin Valley today. As settlers and guests on these lands, we respect the work of Indigenous leaders and families, pledge to make ongoing efforts recognize their knowledge, creativity, and resilience, and to uplift the voices of those who—for so long—have been silenced.
