Art Literacy – A volunteer-staffed elementary and middle school art education program. The program consists of volunteers who go into classrooms to give a visual presentation on an artist which is followed by a hands-on art project with the students. Six different lessons are presented throughout the year. Volunteers are trained for every lesson they teach by a site-based coordinator at each school. The program’s curriculum is based on more than 100 artists, including European masters, renowned American artists, cultural arts, some living and local artists.

Beaverton Clothes Closet – The Clothes Closet is operated by volunteers from the School District’s parent groups and Beaverton community to provide free clothing for students in grades K-12 from families with limited income (you may leave donations for the clothes closet at the volunteer station).

Book Fair – Scholastics book fair held in the school library. This is run by library staff and parent volunteers. Students have the opportunity to shop before/after school plus during their library time.

Blast Off Benefit – PTC fundraiser that is fun for all the family. It includes bingo games, cakewalks, jazzy jars and a silent auction.

Box Tops for Education – A way to earn money for our school by scanning your receipts using the Box Tops for Education app and you’re done – no more clipping!  Learn more here. Still have Box Tops laying around? Turn them in at the school’s Volunteer Check-in Desk.

Carnival – A volunteer run school-wide evening event with games, food, and fun for the whole family.

Classroom Help – Volunteers that help classroom teachers with production of resources, reading groups and anything else that they require!

Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) – All 3rd and 5th grade students in the Beaverton School District will be administered the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Screener. This test measures students’ learned reasoning abilities through verbal/picture analogies, number analogies and figure matrices.Students who score at the 97th percentile or above on the CogAT screener will be invited to test with the full version of the CogAT that is used for potential TAG identification.

Common Core State Standards (CCSS) – A coherent progression of learning expectations in English language arts and mathematics designed to prepare K–12 students for college and career success. More information at https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/parents/common-core

Dine Out Nights – A program that invites Rock Creek families to dine in (or take out) at local restaurants on specific dates where those establishments donate a percentage of their sales to Rock Creek.

DreamBox – A k-8 digital math program.  Your student can access DreamBox Learning from any computer. All you need is is a high-speed internet connection and login.  Contact your child’s teacher.

ELMOs – Overhead projection units used at Rock Creek.

Field Day – A day devoted to cooperative games and active play for each grade level.

Innovation Fair – 3rd graders present their innovative design project in the gym. All parents and students welcome (particularly 2nd graders who will be participating the following year).

Lost and Found – Location for misplaced student belongings. The main location is in a closet near next to the cafeteria entrance. Items that are labelled with names are returned to students via some hard working 5th Graders! Any unclaimed items are donated at the end of each month to the Beaverton Clothes Closet. There is also a lost and found for small items in the front office.

Meet The Teacher – An afternoon meet and greet event held before the start of each school year. Students have to opportunity to meet their teacher, explore their new classroom and drop off classroom supplies. There is an ice cream/popsicle social help immediately afterwards on the school field.

Movie Night – A PTC sponsored event held in the school gym. An age appropriate film is shown and snacks are available for purchase. Pillows and blankets are encouraged.

myVolunteerPage (powered by Better Impact) – Beaverton School District’s chosen volunteer management system, which incorporates security background checks. All volunteers must have a profile at myvolunteerpage.com to volunteer in BSD schools. Use myVolunteerPage to indicate volunteer interests, sign up for volunteer shifts, and record volunteer hours worked. This system is also used as Rock Creek PTC’s primary means of communicating with Rock Creek volunteers.

SchoolCafe.com – A website/app that allows access to your student’s meal account. You can check balances and add funds to account.

Online Payment System – An online fee collection for school fees (field trip, recorders, library fines). Accessed via the resources page in the main Rock Creek Elementary website.

OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) – A statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in conjunction with a Library Services and Technology Act grant. Students in 3rd – 5th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints. The mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.

ParentVUE – An online tool to keep families updated of a student’s progress. It allows parents to complete online registration for each new school year and the ability to update student information and emergency contacts.

Portable – Classroom that is separate and outside of main school building.

PYP Chat/Principal Chat – Informal open meetings with the school principal.

PTC Meeting – These are run by the Rock Creek PTC elected board members and held once a month, alternating evening and morning meetings. All parents are welcome.

Recess Runners – A running club that encourages kids to get exercise by tracking laps of the track running with their friends at lunch recess (currently Wednesdays). All children are enrolled in this program, although participation is optional. Children earn shoe tokens for every 50 laps completed and a T-shirt when they complete a marathon (262 laps)! In order to give students the best chance of achieving their goal of running a marathon, we are allowing students to run laps once a week (or 4 times per month) and have parents/guardians count and record them. Please fill out and submit the Recess Runners Tracking Sheet and at least every two months so we can update our master tracking sheet. Only one t-shirt per school year will be awarded.

Rocket Run – Rock Creek PTC’s primary method of fundraising for the school year. Children have the opportunity to run laps at a designated time and get sponsors to donate to the school.

Room Parties – Each class enjoys a class party which is funded by the PTC each Fall/Halloween and Valentines Day. Room Parties are organised by Rock Creek volunteers under the direction of the Room Party Coordinator.

PTC – Parent Teacher Club. All parents of Rock Creek students are automatically members of Rock Creek PTC.

PYP – Primary Years Program, elementary level of International Baccalaureate® (IB) www.ibo.org. It focuses on the development of the whole child in the classroom and also in the world outside, through other environments where children learn.

Seasaw  – A portal to showcase student portfolios.  Ask your student’s teacher for access.

Spirit Days – Days throughout the year where students have opportunities for themed dress and activities during the school day.

Student Meal Account – Each student is assigned their own individual meal account which they can access using a Personal Identification Number, (PIN). The meal account is a debit account, so students who purchase full and reduced price meals must deposit money into their accounts before they can purchase meals.

SUMMA – Program at the middle schools for highly-gifted students who qualify during fourth and fifth grade testing periods.

TAG – Talented and Gifted Program. Every year students are considered for Talented and Gifted services in the Beaverton School District. These services are provided by your child’s classroom teacher(s). If you think your child might qualify, you may wish to complete the Parent Information Form that is available in our school’s office. Completing this form gives our school TAG committee more information about your child, but it is not required. All qualified students will be considered regardless of its completion.

Volunteer Badge – Photo identification that needs to be worn at all times when working in a volunteer capacity at school.
